Thornwell Offering: The Thornwell Home & School for Children has been taking care of children and youth in need since its founding on October 1, 1875. The home and school nurtures and educates more than 400 children, many of whom suffer from emotional problems stemming from family crises. One of the most successful schools of its type, the care is based on sound Christian principles and has been credited with dramatic change in many children and youth who have never known a stable family environment. Your generous contributions on Sunday, September 23, will directly support this mission of mercy and love, and provide them with a bright future. For more information go to: www.thornwell.org.

The Women’s Evening Bible Study group is continuing their study about women of the Bible. This Tuesday, September 18, at 5:30 p.m., we will learn about Sapphira. Please join us in the library for fellowship, food, and the opportunity to explore our faith through the stories of our biblical ancestors. All women are welcome, bring a friend!

Last Sunday we celebrated Confirmation! Five young people completed their spiritual journey into full, adult membership in Sunrise Presbyterian Church. Our congratulations to Emily Fairchild, Kate Fairchild, Jordan Fowler, Ariel Lavender, and Campbell Long. Our gratitude to their sponsors: Howard Fields, Steve Hanlon, Rebecca Sigmon, Reece Smith, and Jim Yaman. The Confirmation Class began meeting in January. Confirmation students and sponsors read a book on what it means to be a Presbyterian, and studied, researched, and prepared presentations on important people from the Bible and the church’s history.

Parking lot “face lift!” The “rejuvenation” of our parking lots was sponsored by the Presbyterian Men along with additional money contributed from the capital funds of our Long Term Investment account. A very special “thank you” is owed to Dickey Dingle for spearheading this project. His oversight and tireless efforts assured its beautiful success.

The Sunrise Nursery, Toddler and Preschool Rooms are ready to care for your young children while you attend services and Sunday School. Volunteers are also needed in the crib room for both services. If you love children and want to see them grow in their love
