Week of September 23, 2012

Welcome to our newest members! We celebrate our newest members at Sunrise, Ben and Nicole Frazier and their two daughters, Ruby and Willow; and Neil and Anna Jeffers and their son, Brendan. If you have not met them yet, please introduce yourself and give them a Sunrise welcome to the family!

Thornwell Offering: The Thornwell Home and School for Children has been taking care of children and youth in need since its founding on October 1, 1875. The home and school nurtures and educates more than 400 children, many of whom suffer from emotional problems stemming from family crises. One of the most successful schools of its type, the care is based on sound Christian principles and has been credited with dramatic change in many children and youth who have never known a stable family environment. Your generous contributions given today, will directly support this mission of mercy and love, and provide them with a bright future. For more information go to: www.thornwell.org.

Join the Hamburger Shelter Helpers Club! It’s easy; just donate hamburger meat for our Famous Spaghetti Sauce. Please have hamburger at the church by 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27. Volunteers are also needed to help serve the meal that evening! Please call John Myatt (225-3720) with any questions.

Gray Tolley, Sunrise’s part-time Youth Director, begins full-time at Sunrise on Monday, October 1, 2012! It is with great enthusiasm that the Session is pleased to announce that Gray will become full-time at Sunrise on the first of October. Her duties are expanding to include our children’s programming and young adults. As Sunrise has come to know, Gray has an energy and enthusiasm that inspires people. Under her leadership, the youth program has been an amazing success. The Session feels that Sunrise is tremendously fortunate to have her full-time, coordinating our children’s ministry and developing programs for young adults.

Wear your nametags!! At Sunrise we are committed to learning the name of every person that comes through our doors! Please take the time to put on a name tag and let us
know who you are!

A.A. Evening Meetings on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m., Friday at 6:00 p.m., and Sunday at 6:00 p.m. on the Second Floor.

Sunday School

Sunrise offers Sunday School for all ages! Join us during the 10:00 a.m. hour for a time of study and worship. We have classes for 3 and 4 year olds, kindergarteners through 2nd graders, 3rd through 5th graders, 6th through 8th graders, and 9th through 12th graders.

We use the curriculum, FaithWeaver Friends! This exciting curriculum focuses on our relationship with God, as well as our relationship with our friends. We’ll have different events each week, including games, stories, and crafts.

Middle School Youth will be using resources from the Spice Rack curriculum designed by Mark Devries. Spice Rack provides us with new ways to discover scripture by engaging the brain and igniting the heart to create an interactive faith-sharing experience!

High School Youth this year are studying specific scriptures using a curriculum called: 31 Verses Every Teenager Should Know. Come out each week for what is sure to be thought-provoking conversations with Ms. Reece!

Adult Sunday School Class, led by Dr. Polley, meets in the Library at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday. We are studying the Gospel of John, using the book Invitation to John by Robert D. Kysar.
